What is bang!?

Local Heroes

A chance to look at the work from two of the most consistently inspiring and popular Nottingham filmmakers:

The Turrell Brothers

Local Heros - The Turrell Brothers

John and Tom Turrell, 21 from Beeston in Nottingham started making films at the tender age of 11. They first screened at Bang! in 2002 with a film called 'A Ghost From The Past' an atmospheric tale with pretty high production values, especially when you consider the boys had no access to editing facilities and had to shoot and continuity edit in camera as they were going along. Even back then there was something really cinematic about their work, showing an understanding and maturity for filmmaking that belies their years.

'On the Rocks'

They have since gone on to complete hundreds of films including 'On the Rocks', 'Curtain Call', 'The Weight' and the deeply emotive 'Una' to name but a few. John and Tom are currently in development with Em Media and the UK Film Council on a new 25 minute film called 'Tandem' (working title) where a brother and sister embark on a journey to find their father's grave.

As regular contributors to Bang! - we are hosting a retrospective of their work and to premier a brand new film - 'Unknown Pleasures' - a darkly comic rites of passage drama - trailing 'Tom', a self confessed explorer of dreams and adolescent inertia. The cast comprises Tom Evans, David Cooper and Holly Lucas (who played Pearl in the Bafta nominated 'Knitting a Love Song'). The film took the boys 3 days to shoot on location in Nottingham and Skegness.

This is a chance to catch up on these amazing films, be inspired and most of all to celebrate two of the region's hottest talents. John and Tom will be hosting the screening and there will be a Q&A afterwards where the brothers will be talking about their work and experiences.
